Shamim Khan earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Applied Physics & Electronics from Rajshahi University,
Bangladesh in 1977 and 1979 respectively, and his Ph.D. in Computation from the University
of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 1984. His PhD research
was on digital image processing using a multiprocessor computer system.
Dr. Khan has taught Computer Science at a number of universities in Asia, Australia
and the US. He is currently a Professor at the TSYS School of Computer Science at
Columbus State University, Georgia. Apart from computer vision, his current research
interests include the application of artificial intelligence techniques for knowledge
representation and decision support and Computer Science education. He has more than
thirty-five publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He was the
Principal Investigator for a $1.5 million DoD contract awarded to CSU in 2011.
Dr. Khan has taught courses in artificial intelligence, database systems, graphical
user interfaces, software testing, and computer simulation. He has supervised undergraduate
and graduate research in a variety of areas. He was the founding Chair of the CSU
Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SRACE) Committee, and currently serves
as a member of the University Institutional Review Board, Distance Learning Committee
and the SRACE committee.
